What Am I Doing?



Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the frton page of a new a school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close up plus some appropriately laid out text and a masthead. Additionally  candidates must produce a DTP mock-up to the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.

Rule Of Thrids & Golden Spirl
Rule Of Thirds: (1:1.618) When laying out a magazine you split the picture into 3 lines to have the body in the middle and title on top.

Golden Triangle: Digonal lines. 3 triangles with corresponding shape. 3 subjects approximately equal size.

Golden Spirl: Something leading the eyes to the centre of the composition. A line or several subjects.


Tip one: hold camera nice and close, steady.
Tip two: make sure shutter speed 1/125 and aperture 5.6.
Tip three: important areas eyes and face, centre.
Tip four: no light on face make them as theyll squint

  • Prolem single light, shadows. use refelcter. 3 light set up background light, fill-in light on right, main light left.
  • Body 45 degress to the camera, face striaght on, can use tools too.
